Sallah: NGO donates foods, others to Zaria Orphanage Home Tukur Tukur Zaria
An NGO, Arewa Youth Trust Foundation, on Thursday donated foods and other basic items to the inmates of Zaria Orphanage Home at Tukur-Tukur after Eid-el-Kabir celebration with orphans.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items include: foodstuff, clothing materials and snacks.
While presenting the items, the Foundation Chairman, Alhaji Fahad Ahmed-Chikaji, said that the gesture was to give the orphans a sense of belonging, especially during festive season.
Ahmed-Chikaji, who did not disclose the amount spent on the purchase of the items, said: “The purpose of the visit is to come and see how well these orphans were doing.
“We have been doing this kind of visitations on festive periods like Sallah, Christmas and Easter to see whether there are changes and if there are places where we can assist.
“This is a Sallah period and as an NGO, we want the orphans to be part of this celebration, just like any other child living with his or her parents.
“We want them to feel belong, therefore, we have to embrace them, show them love, care and concern to enable them to feel that the society care for them.”
Ahmed-Chikaji said that as people all over the world celebrate Eid, children with parents would have good clothes and food for the festive period.
Unfortunately, those in the orphanages may never have had the chance,’’ the foundation chairman said.
He, therefore, appealed to corporate organisations, NGOs, well-to-do individuals and philanthropists to come to the aid of the orphans.
Responding, the Overseer of the Orphanage Home, Malam Sarki Mohammed-Awai, expressed appreciation for the gesture, urging the NGO to sustain the tempo.
“First of all, I want to show my appreciation to the foundation, because as I learnt and from records, this is not the first time you have been visiting and donating to the home.
“Let me assure you that the items you donated will be judiciously used for the good of the children,” Mohammed-Awai said.
