Corps Member Empowers 50 Trainers on Sustainable Biofuel Production In Kumbosto Local Government Area of Kano State

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Muhammad Shamsuddin Ibrahim, has empowered 50 trainers (women and youth leaders) with new skills to make them self-reliant.

CTMP reports that the corps member trained 50 trainers on agricultural biomass waste management by converting agricultural biomass to charcoal Briquettes. The project tagged Sustainable and Affordable Energy Project was implemented in Kumbosto Local Government Area of Kano State.

Muhammad Shamsuddin, a Chemistry Education graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who hails from Zaria in Kaduna state was deployed to Kano and subsequently posted to Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education Kumbosto, Kumbosto local Government Area of kano state.

Speaking to CMPT in Kano on Tuesday shortly after the final phase of the project, Muhammad Shamsuddin said his passion for climate action and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) and the need to help the needy pushed him to do what he did for the beneficiaries.

He said, "As a corps member and in partial fulfilment of my NYSC programme, I need to make impact on the community where I served. That is why i engaged in this personal CDS project.

"My objective in empowering all these people, who are not related to me in any way; I have developed passion for Nigerian youths, women and children irrespective of religion, sex and ethnicity and being a climate activist, I read a book titled "Making Africa Work Through The Power of Innovative volunteerism" by Dr. Richard Munang, I realized the best I can offer to my community are skills that will make my people self reliant and also a climate action in disguise, an action towards achieving the SDG's.

“This is why with few sponsors I had, we were able to add value to some people’s life.”

He added that, "I will forever be grateful to my Sponsors for viewing my project worthy of their spsosorship, WOFAN, SRCOE, CMTP, Dheenylkhair Farms Limited and Break-Free Plastic Movement Nigeria. I am grateful to you all.

In her welcome address, the Executive Director of WOFAN, Hajiya Salamatu Garba commended the efforts of the Corp member for bringing such innovation to rural dwellers who need such skills to become self reliant.
She expressed delight  that a youth was able to come up with such an idea which falls within the thematic areas of WOFAN.

Also speaking, the NYSC State Coordinator,  Alh. Ladan Baba who was represented by Mr. Abubakar Onuregi, NYSC Kano State with his team which comprises, the Zonal Inspector, Kano Zone, The Head CDS and Head SAED  of the NYSC and LGI Kumbosto Local Government Area Malama Karima B. Sambo graced the event and Commissioning of the project, applauded the efforts of the Corps member and pleaded with the participants to keep the fire burning as it's a way to convert our waste to wealth promoting wealth creation and other aspects of life which the sustainable and affordable energy project will impact

The Leader of the participants Hajiya Hadiza expressed gratitude to the corps member and the sponsors, noting that they have been empowered by this project, not only with the skills but with three (3) sets of start up equipment which will boost their moral towards active implementation of the skills earned. She further expressed their gratitude to the Corp member, management and team of WOFAN and other sponsors.
